Caswell Sea Glass
Recuperating from illness, I took advantage of today's afternoon sunshine to take a short stroll along Caswell Bay. Having been house-bound for the last month, it was fantastic to feel the sand beneath my feet again. The salt-laden air, the cries of the gulls careering across the sky, the crash and roll of the waves, were all medicines for the soul. And for the first time in what seems like an age, I felt the welcoming warmth of the sun on my face.
The tide was a fair way out when I arrived at the beach, so I took advantage of the wide stretch of sand to partake of one of my favoured pass-times, searching for sea glass. And today, the beach did not disappoint.
I have always enjoyed finding sea glass. I love the way the ocean creates sand from shells and rock. And how glass is then made from this sand. And how discarded glass, finding itself returned to the sea, is then transformed by the pounding waves into beautifully rounded, intriguingly etched jewels.
Swansea beaches are not renowned for their sea glass, but as I discovered today, it is certainly there to be discovered. And what better memento of a trip to a seaside than a than a gem crafted and gifted by the sea itself?
